Casa Maya is a rare find; a small one bedroom beach bungalow/cottage on a private lot, with no larger house or condominium attached to it. This, plus its lovely location on Half Moon Bay beach makes Casa Maya a great little vacation hideaway.
Casa Maya is all on beach level with a spacious ocean view main living space that includes the living room, dining area and kitchen. The kitchen is fully equipped with a four burner gas stove/oven, full size refrigerator, microwave, toaster, blender, coffee maker, cookware, utensils, etc. A breakfast bar/peninsula with four bar stools separates the kitchen from the dining area and the kitchen also has a garden view window. The dining table is between the kitchen and living room and seats four. An intricately carved wooden cabinet in the dining room and regional artwork on the walls warms up the decor. The stonework throughout the house gives a nice balance to the bungalow's otherwise smooth finished white walls.
This beach bungalow is well suited for two or three adults, or a small family of two adults and two children. The only bedroom is an air conditioned ocean view master bedroom with a king bed, sitting area, and an attached bathroom. The master bathroom has a large tiled shower, pedestal sink and stone feature wall. For additional bedding the living room couch folds out to a make a double sized bed.
The ocean patio and beach area are the highlight of the house. Everything outside is finished in native limestone. On the patio are a table, chairs and a built-in charcoal grill for cookouts. Three steps down from the patio puts you on the beach with plenty of fine sand around and a couple chaise lounges for sunbathing. Water shoes or fins are recommended for wadding out into Half Moon Bay, and the snorkeling in front is very good. Turtles are common to see, and a nice variety of fish and coral are a little farther out by the reef.
Beach strolls south follow the arc of the bay to La Buena Vida restaurant/ beach bar. There are two restaurants even closer to the house, Que Onda and La Lunita, and two convenience stores are nearby. Casa Maya has a charming old school quality about it with simple tropical decor and lots of stonework. This bungalow is an excellent opportunity to save a few dollars and still enjoy the privacy of your own beach front bungalow.
